Overheard

Secretary: Did Taryn* come back from the doctor's?
Chart drone:Yeah, she said the doctor put a stiffener in her.
Secretary: Good, that will help her.

EssentialPIM is a free personal information organiser similar to Outlook without the email. There are several versions of essentialPIM but I find the portable version does the job very well. If I want to take it with me I can just copy the programme across onto my USB drive and it's all there. If you visit the site above you will find there are PRO and PRO network versions that you must pay for as well as a full install free version and a version for U3 flash drives.

What do you get with EssentialPIM?

  • You get a calendar/Schedule that can show you daily, weekly, monthly or yearly views and lets you add tasks which can be recurring and/or have reminders attached.
  • To Do list lets you add tasks in much the same way as the scheduler however these do not show up on the calendar but can be marked as completed or partially complete.
  • Notes can be added including clicky links, tables and pictures along with plenty of text options eg. colour, size, font etc.
  • A contacts manager, however in the free version you can't just click on an email address to send an email to that person, you must copy and paste it
  • You can import data from both Outlook and Outlook Express.
  • Print any of the above things
  • I don't seem to have written much here considering this is a great little programme that can bring order to chaos.
