Overheard

Angry parent: So what you are telling me is you know nothing about how my son's face got bruised.
Teacher: No, ma'am. Like I said, it happened at recess. I am on my lunch during their recess.
Angry parent:So you weren't there? You didn't see nothing?
Teacher: I did not see anything. I was not there. I was on my lunch.
Angry parent: So you wasn't there? You is his teacher but you's not with him all day?
Teacher: No ma'am. If I were with these students all day, I would kill myself.

This easy to use screencapture programme can do pretty much all you would want to do with a screenshot. You can do all the basics like capture an active window or full screen or a rectangle area or even a freehand area but you can also capture a scrolling screen ie. you can save to a graphic file, the whole of a page that you have to scroll on your screen. Some other freebies do this but Faststone does it the best.It is also small and not too heavy on computing power.

The following is a screenshot of one of the webpages here on my site however I have resized it smaller to fit on this page.

Now here's the extras you can do with Faststone

  • Directly email a screenshot
  • Directly print a screenshot
  • Apply drop shadow or torn edges
  • Apply a watermark / Insert a graphics file
  • Resize
  • Expand canvas size in any direction
  • Use of brightness, contrast, hue, saturation etc,
  • Converting to sepia and greyscale
  • Rotating and flipping images
  • Include or omit cursor
  • Add text or a caption
  • Highlight an area
  • Draw
  • Add text (can have rounded corners, with or without background)
  • Add arrows
  • Save the files in many different formats including jpg, bmp, gif and pdf

So I rather like this screencapture programme and it will be taking over from MWSnap on my pc. Unfortunately it has now gone shareware (you have to pay for it) so it will not be kept up to date in the further improvements or updates to the freeware version.
