Don't you just hate it when you want to print a page off the web and the text is tiny and you wind up wasting ink and space on google ads or background pictures and other fluff you don't want? Well I've found a wonderful solution in the form of PrintWhatYouLike. PWYL allows you to remove any part of a page, background images, other images, google ads etc. It also allows you to enlarge (or decrease) the font size and then after you have done all that you can fit what's left to the width of the page. There are 2 ways to use PWYL. You can either go to their website and copy and paste in the url of the page you want to print (I haven't tried this) or you can use the special link they give you by adding it to your bookmarks/favourites (Bookmarklet page). Then when you get to a page you want to print you simply click your bookmark and a new panel opens on the left of the page allowing you to make your changes and print the page. But wait, there's more ;) You can also save your edited page as an html file or as a PDF file. Not only that there is also PageZipper which I've yet to try out. This one is for saving multiple pages as one file eg. for use when you come across those tutorials that have just one paragraph to a page and then you have to click the next button for each new paragraph. Stoopid. There is also a fairly good help file/FAQ's that can be found at http://www.printwhatyoulike.com/pagezipper Here are some screenshots to give you an idea of what it's all about. I've started with a page from my own site that someone might want to print.
Here I've removed the google ads and the left hand menu and other extraneous matter that you wouldn't want to print. I've also selected the header photo and am about to click the remove button.
This is how it looks after that header image is removed and enlarged the text size.
And now the background image is removed.
This is great for printing, prefect in fact! |
