I have no idea how much time I have put into just getting the RSS syndication to work how I want it to work with this Joomla installation (1.0.13). I believe it's all easy in v. 1.5 but I'm not ready to upgrade yet. I have installed DS Syndicate, a component I got from this Joomla extensions page. DS syndicate consists of a component and a module. The module tells Joomla how and where to put the RSS feed links on your pages. With this component you can chose what your visitors might like to read from your site by creating feeds to individual Sections or even individual Categories. That is quite easy to do however every time I hit save from within the feed setup pages I get logged out and have to log back in again. I can find no reference to this anywhere on the net and am clueless as to why or how to fix it. Luckily I don't have to do this too often as it is annoying. Anyway, you can also choose how many items you want included in your feed and whether you want them presented in Ascending or Descending order. You also get to make a button but that didn't work for me so I made mine at Adam Kalsey's site. There are several other options you can change and the ability to include an image. Unfortunately after all that I still had this ugle () after each feed name in my reader (I just read them with Opera's built in reader) but I also played around with Great News which I got from Snapfiles. Add to that was the feeds showed my email address and appeared to come from me personally instead of from afewbeers.com but I finally found a solution. Yippee. Check it out. DS-Syndicate bug fix. I downloaded their zip file and extracted it, opened Filezilla portable, my trusty ftp transferring software, downloaded a copy of the two files from my site to keep as a backup (I do already have them somewhere on this full pc but I just wanted to be sure), uploaded the files that came in the zip and overwrote what was there. And guess what? It worked! Thankyou, thankyou David T for this little gem. Before I did this bug fix I also played around as my feeds were not working right. They never seemed to download the latest stuff. Unfortunately I can't say how I fixed this as I tried many things that didn't appear to work and then set everything back to the way I started out and it just worked. Typical :( |
