Frequently Asked Questions - email
Sunday, 07 October 2007

How to setup your email with Outlook Express. You can do it, anyone can do it.

When you sign up with an internet service provider (ISP) you should also get at least one email address. The information you need to know to set up Outlook Express is

  • The actual email address
  • Your password
  • The POP server which will be something like mail.myisp.com or pop.myisp.com
  • The SMTP server which might be mail.myisp.com or smtp.myisp.com

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Click on the Tools menu at the top
  3. Click on Accounts
  4. In the window that opened click on the Add > button on the right
  5. Click on Mail
  6. A wizard will now start that will guide you through the setup

    • Display name means the name you want others to see when they receive your email, it does not have to be the first part of your email address
    • Click Next
    • Now type in your email address in full and click Next
    • On this screen you leave the POP3 in the drop down box and add in those servers I was talking about before eg. mail.myisp.com
    • Click Next
    • Account Name is the first part of your email address eg. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it would be entered here as just jsmith97 in the Account Name. Add in your password
    • If you have seen no mention by your ISP of having to use secure password authentication then leave the last box in that window unchecked, otherwise click the box to check mark it. It is also preferable to have your password remembered or you will have to type it in every time your email is checked
    • Click Next and then click Finish
