Overheard

Kid: But what if they don't know what I'm saying?
Mom: Don't worry. In Canada they speak English.
Kid, crying: But I don't speak English! I speak American!

Yep, I know it's probably boring to many of you but I have to let people know the shit that goes on for farmers and why we are whingers. Especially when I've had a few beers as I have right now (typing well though aren't I!)

So the latest is that we now get back 50% of what we have to pay for water for irrigation. This is that water that isn't there, remember. So each quarter we pay Sunwater the full amount for our water allocation and then we get back 50% of that money from the govt. because there IS NO WATER THERE SO WE ARE PAYING FOR NOTHING.

Now get this. On the radio the other day the govt. spokesperson claimed it costs them $360 to process each of those rebate claims! $360!!!! How for god's sake? All they have to do is tap a few keys on a keyboard which should bring up the name of the person asking for the rebate, whether or not they are elligible and for how much. Then another couple of taps to transfer the funds to our bank account. Either they have really, really poor office workers or very poor database designers. No! I think I've got it. The office workers are on the internet half the day doing their own private thing. Grrrrr. Or maybe it's the cost of all the cars that have to be bought for govt. employees? Yep, can't have a little, economical thing to zip round in, gotta have the best. Did I mention the mobile phone? Probably pay for all their personal calls as well. It's got to be all the above or how else can it possibly cost $360 to process one claim.
