I'm in Love! Print E-mail
Tuesday, 15 January 2008

Yes I am. This male has squirmed his way into my heart and I can't stop thinking about him. My grandson. Yeah boring to you but now I finally know why all those grandparents I have known have always gone on about their grandkids. It breaks my heart that I will hardly ever see this beautiful little bundle because of where they live and my son's busy work life.

Onto a different topic...Why do people not keep the CDs they get with a new computer? Most of the time when I fix a computer for a friend they never have the installation CDs. Do the people who discard them not even wonder why they were given them in the first place? Well if you are reading this and you are getting a new pc or even cleaning up and thinking of throwing out all that extra stuff that came with your pc then DON'T! Keep it. It has a purpose and could save you lots of money in repair fees at a later date. Better still it could save your "computer friend" many hours.

On a similar topic, I discovered yesterday that you can use an OEM copy of windowsXP SP2 on an Acer computer with the Acer Key that's on the holographic sticker on the side of the case. I was able to activate it over the net as the only things I had changed in the computer were the hard drive and the optical drive.

I now have no spare older computers left to give away or replace broken ones with :( Quite a shame because I know so many people who can't afford a pc partly because of poor health. They are the ones who need them most to give them something to do. Also a few kids who's parents can't afford them. The computers I fix up often don't have a long life simply because of their age so if anyone out there has any to throw away let me know.

Benazir Bhutto, farting and rain Print E-mail
Monday, 31 December 2007

I've been watching Benazir Bhutto's story for many years. No, I don't really understand all the politics of it but this woman caught my attention because of her grace and dignity. I am quite saddened by her death. It doesn't matter how she actually died whether it be by a gunshot, a bomb or a head injury getting into a car, the fact is she was assassinated. I feel sorry for the people of Pakistan who had hoped to have a future with a democracy and freedom. How gutted they must feel right now.

On a lighter note farts still feature highly at google video! There are 4 videos on the top 10 that have the word fart in their title. My new grandson let a huge one rip when he was just 1 day old and my husband was so pleased with him. Onya boy he's saying. All I could think was he is his father's son.

We've had a bit more rain here. Not enough to put water in the dam which is still sitting on just 3% (therefore none for irrigation) but there is heaps of greenery around. We've even had to slash round the house. Nelson, my pet bull is fat and the horses are rolling fat. Now all we need is to be able to afford some new fencing and some more cattle.

So it's the very end of a year that has been good on average for me. Dad broke his back, Mum had kidney problems and the drought has left us up the creek but all is better now and we have Hayden to watch grown up. I hope our earth can survive our destruction just so that Hayden can grow to be an old man comfortably. I also hope that you can all have a very Happy 2008. Stay safe!

I have a grandson Print E-mail
Wednesday, 19 December 2007

Whoah! This is way bigger than I imagined when my son, Graham, and his girlfriend, Katie, told me about 8 months ago they were going to have a baby. I mean, yeah, I was pretty happy of course and I've recently been quite excited but when the moment finally happened last Sunday, the 16th and I got to see him on Monday and Tuesday it was one of the most moving things in my life. More so even than when I gave birth to Graham 24 years ago. Back then I was too tired and overwhelmed to think anything much but this? This is a high of no comparison.

I won't bore you with photos of a baby you will never know (but gee I'd like to because he is the most beautiful child ever born of course). His name is Hayden James and he was a big 8lb 10oz so poor Katie went through a rough time having him. I am so over the top about this I can't even think of something funny to say although my son told Katie that the 4 grandparents didn't just wet the baby's head but nearly drowned it. We did. First grandchild on both sides so it was never going to be otherwise.

So as much as I don't like it, my own baby really is all grown up now. Thankyou Graham and Katie for your special gift.

Farting Print E-mail
Thursday, 13 December 2007

Do you ever wonder what fascinates the general population? I've been playing around at Google Video lately and for some strange reason I keep going back to look at the top 100 video clips. Farts always feature highly. Why is that? Why is that so funny?

Of the top 6 videos at GoogleVideo today, 4 have "Fart" in their title. I can't check them all out (thankfully) because my satellite internet is just too slow and I can't be bothered. The thing that gets me most is that I'm sitting here looking at this and say out loud to hubby guess what 4 of the top 6 videos are? They're farting. And he laughs. Oh man, why did I bother to mention this to a male. All males are fascinated by any bodily function have you noticed?

I did manage to get the film clip of Queen singing Bohemian Rhapsody as well as a few other oldies.

Anyway, on a totally different topic, we've had rain. Heaps of rain! It started last week and has all been in storms, some of which have been a bit scary. Small hail last night and the night before a huge tree blew down not far from the house. So it's all green.

Here's a pic I took an hour ago through the flyscreen on the window. If you look closely you can see all 4 dogs with Nelson the bull.

Email junk Print E-mail
Monday, 19 November 2007

Why do so many people send so much junk? I'm sure many have wondered at what I send or not enjoyed it but I do make the effort when I forward on emails to think of who would get a laugh out of it or find it interesting. But so many people just blindly forward on all the crap and the worst part is it's from friends you don't want to offend.

So today I got an email with a pic of a skeleton waiting for that amazing thing that is going to happen when you forward on this email. Yep, not bad I s'pose but get this! The last email from the same person was one that you had to forward on and keep the coffee pouring or you will no longer be blessed. Who thinks up this shit? What makes people forward it on? Please don't send me anything unless you laughed at it (and I mean laughed, not pretended to laugh) or found it fascinating or interesting. And I hope that all the people that write this garbage get a life

More on Irrigation water Print E-mail
Wednesday, 14 November 2007

Yep, I know it's probably boring to many of you but I have to let people know the shit that goes on for farmers and why we are whingers. Especially when I've had a few beers as I have right now (typing well though aren't I!)

So the latest is that we now get back 50% of what we have to pay for water for irrigation. This is that water that isn't there, remember. So each quarter we pay Sunwater the full amount for our water allocation and then we get back 50% of that money from the govt. because there IS NO WATER THERE SO WE ARE PAYING FOR NOTHING.

Now get this. On the radio the other day the govt. spokesperson claimed it costs them $360 to process each of those rebate claims! $360!!!! How for god's sake? All they have to do is tap a few keys on a keyboard which should bring up the name of the person asking for the rebate, whether or not they are elligible and for how much. Then another couple of taps to transfer the funds to our bank account. Either they have really, really poor office workers or very poor database designers. No! I think I've got it. The office workers are on the internet half the day doing their own private thing. Grrrrr. Or maybe it's the cost of all the cars that have to be bought for govt. employees? Yep, can't have a little, economical thing to zip round in, gotta have the best. Did I mention the mobile phone? Probably pay for all their personal calls as well. It's got to be all the above or how else can it possibly cost $360 to process one claim.
