Overheard

Student #1: I think I want to go to Asia after college.
Student #2: Why?
Student #1: Because I really want to improve my Spanish, and the best way to do that is to live in the country.
Student #2: That's a good idea.

You know, some things really make you wonder don't they? I read a news article a couple of weeks ago about kids on the Gold Coast, Qld, causing trouble at a shopping centre during school hours. The shopping centre is wanting to ban all school children between 8.30am and 3pm unless they have a note from their parents. Of course some idiot lawyer (Bill Potts) has then stood up and said they can't do that, it is discrimination. Discrimination against what for crying out loud?

Well I don't know about you but I can't quite work out why these kids are not at school and are at the shopping centre to start with. Doesn't the law here state that all children under a certain age must attend schoool? Do the parents know their kids aren't at school? Do they care?

Well Mr. Bill (doodle brain) Potts, do you care about these kids? Do you care if they are educated and become useful citizens of our country or are you happy for them to "hang out" and become adult menaces and ratbags? I heard on a radio talk back show recently, some person say "everyone knows farmers are as dumb as dog shit". Well I think he should have replaced farmers with lawyers because even I, a lowly farmer, can work out that a shopping centre is not the best place for a student.
